  • Brown Bin
    If you would like to know more about Brown Bins for garden waste collection service click here.
    To order a bin online click here.
    The decision to charge Brown bins separately was soas not to penalise those without gardens or who want to do their own composting.
  • Composting
    Visit the Recycle Now website for special offer compost bins or a kitchen caddy. Or be really daring and go for one of the Waste Digesters such as a "green cone" food waste digester or even a Wormery. Come on Iwade, get green!
  • Computers
    Do you have an old computer you want to get rid of? Why not do a good turn and drop it into Cyber Ark which is part of the Vines Centre Trust in Chatham (Luton). It will be stripped down, rebuilt and sent out to Romania where it will be put to very good use. Apparently it's illegal to dump a computer. Cyber Ark have relocated but can be contacted at 01634 290271.
  • Freecycle
    Have you considered joining Freecycle - our closest group is Isle of Sheppey. Visit www.freecycle.org for more information. Contact nicola@iwadevillage.co.uk if you have problems signing up as I am an avid freecycler!
  • Furniture
    Do you have furniture you want to get rid of and would like to see it put to good use?
    • British Heart Foundation
      British Heart Foundation is a local charity that will take unwanted furniture. Their shop is in West Street Sittingbourne and sells a lot of good quality furniture. They will collect for free, although ask for a nominal donation. Call British Heart Foundation on 01795 426 993.
    • Neighbourhood Furniture Store
      Sittingbourne now has a Neighbourhood Furniture Store which has been set up by Amicus Vision, a charity established by Amicus Group. The project has been supported by the Big Lottery Fund's Community Recycling and Economic Development (CRED) Programme. Call 01795 478550 if you have something to donate and your items will be collected so it couldn't be easier. The Neighbourhood Furniture Store are looking for good quality furniture such as:

      • Chests of Drawers
      • Tables
      • Cabinets
      • Sofas
      • Washing Machines
      • Electric Cookers
      Note Items must meet appropriate safety standards and be in good working order.
  • Household Waste Recycling Centres (The Tip!)

  • Recycling Collections
    Recycling is collected every other week as part of the Swale Twin Bin Scheme. Collection days vary across Iwade. One week is blue bin week (recycling including paper and cardboard, plastic, tins and glass) and one week is green bin week (non-recyclables). Click here to find out more on the Swale website.

Mobile Library
  • The Maidstone Mobile Library stops in Iwade on Sheerstone every other Thursday between 10.40 and 10.55. If you are not a member you can join on the spot - you just need one piece of identification with your address on. You won't be able to use your Sittingbourne library ticket however. You can call the library mobile on 07740 183758 if you have any more questions about the service.
