Letter from Southern Water
In response to a hosepipe ban query from iwadevillage.co.uk reader Gemma Coleman...

Dear Miss McKenzie

Re: Water restrictions

Thank you for your e-mail of 24 July enquiring whether the water restrictions apply to Iwade and I am sorry that it was necessary for you to write to me.

There will be a full hosepipe ban in Iwade as from 30 July. When a full hosepipe ban is in force, a customer cannot use a hosepipe (hand held or unattended) or a sprinkler, to water a private garden or wash a private motor vehicle.

It is permissible to use a bucket or watering can to perform these activities, providing the water is not drawn through a hosepipe. However, a hose may be used to siphon water out of a bath or a sink. Until 30 July, it is still possible to use a hand-held hosepipe in Iwade.

I am sorry that it was necessary for Southern Water to introduce restrictions. However, in time of shortage, we are obliged to ensure that there is a good and wholesome quantity of water at customers’ taps for normal domestic purposes and public health needs.

I trust the above information clarifies the position and thank you for your co-operation.

Yours sincerely,

Ms D Ratcliffe
