John retires with Christobel to Wiltshire, his last service being on 9th October. He will be greatly missed
by the three parishes and by us personally.
Both John and Chris have endeared themselves to many in the three Villages of Upchurch , Lower Halstow and Iwade.
He is a gentle, understanding man, who has encouraged us and many others. He and Chris are sincere in prayer both in matters spiritual and secular. He would break off discussion, whilst with a furrowed brow put the matter to prayer, seeking what the Good Lord would say or have done in a certain situation. One could say with John present God was never forgotten. John can take in the lighter side of life too, even playing the ‘Joker’ at times. He will be remembered for his appearances in the Upchurch Pantomimes, usually playing the villain.
Many points made in his sermons take on a dramatic element to emphasise his point, they are never ‘Boring’.
He is always willing to offer a listening ear without jumping to an immediate conclusion. He and Chris always made one feel welcomed and at home especially when visiting the Vicarage. Although a very busy man he always made time to have empathy with other peoples proble
