Expedition of a lifetime, but not just for my life. This is the first part of Iwade's Liam Botterill's journey in the lead-up to an exciting adventure to renovate a community school in Kathmandu in Nepal, South Asia. Follow his fund-raising project here at iwadevillage.co.uk. Click read more to read Part 1. "Travelling has always been something that I have aspired to do, but never did I think that it would come this early in my life. I always thought that apart from the occasional holiday, my travelling would not fully start until I finished my studies, or even at the end of my career, but now I have to opportunity to kick start it now, and help others as I travel. In July of 2011, 26 students from Rainham Mark Grammar School will be travelling to Kathmandu in Nepal, South Asia, where we will take part in a 3 week expedition followed by a community support project, where we will be helping to renovate and improve a local school, as to help children improve the environment in which they learn in. This will be followed by a 4 day rest and relaxation period in which we will be able to visit the sights of Nepal to experience the culture. To allow myself to travel to Nepal in 2011 I will have to raise £3000 in sponsorship money as to cover the cost of travelling and the cost of our help to the community. I have already taken a part time job as to cover the cost of my travel, however this is not enough. I am currently running many different events to help fundraise for this trip, such as a fashion show, that will take place later this year. I am also taking part in a 15 Km run in Berkshire organised by the expedition company, World Challenge, as to allow me to raise the necessary funds. I write this article to appeal to your generous side. If you would like further information about the expedition or any of the fundraising events that will soon follow, or if you would like to make a generous donation, please do not hesitate to contact myself, Liam Botterill, through liam_botterill@hotmail.com, or at 07504740630. Please also note that the fundraising events that will follow will be posted on the Iwade village website, and I invite you all to attend. Thank You for your time. " |
