Village Sign - What You Had To Say...

"A child designed the sign in a competition, that was held throughout the school. The children were asked to design a sign, pointing out the local landmarks and what Iwade was ascociated with. The child is now 17, so it has taken a few years to get this finally erected, but is brilliant to see.The bridge speaks for itself, as does the church, with the date of 1302 ,and the Herons are the birds that have always been around our village and the fields, and are still seen now,( even though very rarely). That is why the local football club is called Iwade Herons. I hope this has helped a little..."

"The village sign is a great addition to Iwade but is let down by the fact that from one side it is hidden by a tree and from the other it blends into the same tree and therefore is hard to see. Solution: (re)move the tree!"

"Having noticed the sign (difficult to miss) I looked at iwadevillage web site and wonder who is Ted Cornford? Where he lives etc? Also who made the sign and when was it actually put up? Another question is why was that site chosen?"

We responded - "Apparently the sign was put up on either 6th or 8th July. Ted Cornford does not want any publicity. The Parish Clerk is going to get back to me re who made the sign. According to the Parish Clerk. the reason the site was chosen was that it did not obstruct any sight lines, also it can be seen clearly from both angles, other places which were considered were Pinks Corner but there are too many roads there and on the Corner of Woodpecker Drive it would have been put back too far from the road. Hope this helps, will let you know when I hear who made the sign."
